Welcome to Afripraat!
Here's how your Afrikaans is coming along.
Afripraat is an Afrikaans learning app for Grade 4-12 learners. Practise a small set of active words: type the Afrikaans translation, get a word right 10 times and it is mastered — a new word unlocks automatically. And now a full sentence-structure track too, so learners master the grammar rules, not just the vocabulary. Teachers see it all, without marking a thing.
Real Afrikaans practice happens between the lessons — in a learner's own time, at their own pace, with no one watching. That is exactly what Afripraat is built for.
A few spare minutes — at home, on the bus, whenever — is enough. Learners keep Afrikaans ticking over in their own time, long after the lesson ends.
Type an answer and know at once whether it's right. Learners correct themselves on the spot, while the word is still fresh — the moment learning actually sticks.
No class watching, no hands up, no embarrassment. Learners can get a word wrong as many times as they need — and grow in confidence — with no one looking over their shoulder.
Alongside the word packs, learners work through a full Sentence Structure & Rules track — the grammar that turns words into correct Afrikaans sentences.
Learners rewrite, fix and build real sentences — typed or tap-to-order — and master each one the same way they master words.
A separate sentence-structure mark next to the vocabulary mark, plus a combined one. Build or import your own grammar packs and assign them per grade.
Start a learner practising in their own time, or set up your class for free. Set-up takes less than two minutes.
No multiple choice, no copy-paste. Learners type every answer — the way they will in the exam — and find out instantly whether it's right. Get it wrong? Nothing happens: there's no class watching, so they simply try again and master it in private, at their own pace.
Ready-made topic packs, or the packs your teacher assigned to your class.
The first time a word appears you see it in English and Afrikaans. After that, you're tested.
Ten correct answers and the word is mastered for good. A new word takes its place automatically.
First mastered word, login streaks, perfect runs, full packs — progress you can see.
Vocabulary is only half of Afrikaans. Alongside the word packs, learners work through a full Sentence Structure & Rules track — verlede & toekomende tyd, the double negative, STOMPI word order, voegwoorde and more. They rewrite, fix and build real sentences — typed or tap-to-order — and master each one exactly the way they master a word.
Open the section that fits you.
Teachers use everything above for free. Create a classroom, share one join code (you approve who joins), assign vocabulary and grammar packs, and read every learner's progress as a term participation mark — exportable to Excel in one click. See it all on the For teachers page →
Master Afrikaans vocabulary, one word at a time.

Afripraat is an Afrikaans learning app built specifically for South African Grade 4-12 learners studying Afrikaans First Additional Language (FAL/EAT). Instead of multiple choice, you type every Afrikaans word, so the vocabulary sticks for tests and exams. It is one of the few Afrikaans apps with built-in classroom tools that let teachers track daily progress for free.
Correct. Teacher accounts are free, forever — classrooms, pack creation, reports and certificates included. Only learner accounts carry a subscription.
Both. Alongside the vocabulary packs, learners work through a full Sentence Structure & Rules track — verlede & toekomende tyd, the double negative, STOMPI word order, voegwoorde, infinitiewe, direkte & indirekte rede, and bedrywende & lydende vorm. They build and fix real sentences and master each one the same way they master words, and teachers get a separate grammar mark.
The teacher shares a short join code. The learner enters it once, the teacher accepts the request, and from then on the teacher can track progress and assign word packs.
Typing the correct Afrikaans translation 10 times. Because answers must be typed — not picked from a list — mastered words stick for tests and exams.
It combines active days, practice attempts and words mastered within the date range the teacher selects — perfect for a term mark, exportable to Excel in one click.

Master 10 correct answers for a word to see it here!
Vocabulary is one half of Afrikaans - these packs build the other half: how words go together into correct sentences. Pick a rule to practise.
Upload a spreadsheet to add many sentences at once. Download the template to see the columns. Imported sentences are added to the list below, where you can still edit them.
Pick a type per sentence:
• Typed answer — the instruction, the sentence the learner sees, and the full correct answer (extra accepted answers separated by &). "Start with" is optional: give an opening word (e.g. Gister) and the learner only types the remainder — the full answer must still include that word.
• Tap-to-order — type the word blocks in the correct order separated by | (e.g. Ek | speel | elke dag | rugby); the learner taps them into order.
These are allocated to learners by grade (grade-matching packs show first).
All available sentence-structure packs — built-in, the Afripraat library, and your own. Use Assign Grammar in a classroom to choose which ones your learners get. Packs you create can be edited or deleted here.
We offer discounted bulk school licences (invoiced once for the year, every learner covered). Email info@afripraat.co.za and we'll sort out a quote for your school.
Every ready-made deck available to assign, plus your own. Tap a deck to see its words.
Learners sign up at afripraat.co.za, choose "I have a class code" and enter this code to join your class.
Tick the sentence-structure packs your learners should practise. They will only see the ones you assign here. Leave all unticked to give them every pack.
Upload an Excel file with two columns: English and Afrikaans - all words are added in one go. Not sure of the format? Download the template below.
Upload an Excel file with two columns (English, Afrikaans) to add more words to this pack.
Permanently delete your account, profile and all learning progress. Any active subscription is cancelled first (with a full refund inside the 14-day money-back window). This cannot be undone. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is deleted.

Guess today's 5-letter Afrikaans word in 6 tries. Every guess must be a real Afrikaans word from the Afrispel list. Green means the letter is in the right spot, orange means it's in the word but in another spot. A new word arrives every day at 08:00.
Learner counts per school for invoicing, and bulk access for schools that have paid. Sponsor a whole school at once, or expand a school to sponsor individual classes. Sponsoring grants free access to every learner in the sponsored class(es) until the date you set.
Uptake, engagement and revenue — with week-over-week trends and the sign-up → paid funnel.
Scans accounts, classrooms and packs for signs of misuse, and shows the server security log. Running a scan changes nothing - it only reads.
Upload one Excel file containing many decks. Each row becomes a word, grouped into decks by the Deck column. Columns must be, in order:

Two categories of 5-letter Afrikaans words. Antwoorde are the words the game picks a student's word of the day from. Raaiwoorde are extra real Afrikaans words students may enter as guesses, but that are never chosen as the word of the day. A guess only counts if it appears in one of the two lists, so students can't submit random letters. Words that are not exactly 5 letters are skipped when you save.
Upload a sheet with two columns headed Antwoorde and Raaiwoorde (two sheets with those names, or answers in column A and guess-only words in column B, also work). The file fills in the boxes below - check them, then press Save to publish.
How many students played the daily word and how many solved it, per game day (a game day runs 08:00 to 08:00). A student counts as having played from their first valid guess.
